Micron Technology launched its new research initiative, Micron Research Labs, on August 20, 2026. The company plans to invest $10 billion into the project over approximately ten years. The facility will be located in Boise, Idaho, with construction scheduled to begin in 2027.
On August 26, 2026, Dr. Scott DeBoer was appointed as President. His responsibilities include the oversight of the new research division. The company has not confirmed any role for Deirdre Hanford, despite industry reports suggesting her potential involvement in leading the labs.
Deirdre Hanford previously worked at Synopsys for 36 years and served as the founding CEO of Natcast, a nonprofit organization managing the National Semiconductor Technology Center under the CHIPS and Science Act. She also received the 2025 IEEE Frederik Philips Award.
