Meta has introduced a new capability allowing AI agents to configure and manage WhatsApp Business messaging services. Developers can now delegate setup tasks to AI assistants by providing natural language instructions, eliminating the need to manually navigate between the Developer Console, Meta Business Manager, and API documentation.

This functionality is powered by the new WhatsApp Business Tools MCP, a Model Context Protocol server that bridges AI coding agents like Claude, Cursor, Codex, and ChatGPT with the WhatsApp Business Platform. The integration aims to simplify the onboarding process for businesses connecting with customers through the messaging app.

Meta is expanding its suite of MCP servers, which already includes tools for ad management and app configuration. The company also noted that its existing Meta Social Technologies MCP can be utilized alongside the new tool to assist with API endpoint discovery, documentation searches, and troubleshooting during the setup phase.

The adoption of MCP servers is becoming a broader industry trend, with companies such as PayPal, Stripe, GitHub, Notion, Slack, Salesforce, Atlassian, Google, Microsoft, and X offering similar integrations. These protocols allow AI agents to interact securely with various third-party services.
