Meta launched its personal AI agent, Muse, on September 8, 2026. The application quickly reached the top of the US iOS free app charts. The release follows a $18 billion multistate settlement regarding social media impacts on youth, with Meta emphasizing privacy features for the new product.
Muse is built on Muse Spark models and operates within a sandboxed virtual machine called Muse Secure VM. The agent performs tasks such as sending emails, booking travel, and managing purchases. It integrates with services like Gmail, Spotify, and Stripe, requiring explicit user permission for sensitive actions.
The service offers three pricing tiers: a free version, a Power tier at $20 per month, and a Maximum subscription at $100 per month. This subscription model introduces a recurring revenue stream for Meta, which has traditionally relied on advertising income.
Following the launch, Meta's stock rose by approximately 27%, with some analysts estimating an increase of up to 36%. At the Meta Connect 2026 event, the company previewed upcoming features, including digital avatars and further service integrations.
The AI infrastructure is developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs under the leadership of Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang. Unlike other Meta products, Muse was released as a standalone application, requiring it to gain user adoption independently of the company's existing platforms like Facebook or Instagram.
