Mercedes-Benz has expressed skepticism regarding the adoption of extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs). Christoph Starzynski, Vice President of Product Strategy and Product Steering, stated that the company does not see sufficient demand for this technology among its customer base.

The manufacturer currently offers plug-in hybrids that provide over 124 kilometers of electric range in Europe. According to Starzynski, this distance is sufficient for daily commuting, and the availability of DC fast charging further enhances the practicality of these existing models.

The company questions whether increasing electric range from approximately 60 miles to 200 miles would influence consumer decisions. Mercedes-Benz maintains that its current plug-in hybrid lineup effectively balances electric driving with the convenience of a gasoline engine.
