Mercedes-Benz has launched local assembly of the electric GLC at its Chakan facility near Pune, India. This site marks the second location for kit-based assembly of the model, following the Thonburi plant in Thailand, and serves as the fourth global production hub for the vehicle.
The Indian market receives the top-end 400 4MATIC variant exclusively in the AMG Line trim. The vehicle is priced at ₹7.85 million, excluding insurance, registration, and a 1 percent tax. This pricing is close to the combustion-engined GLC, which starts at ₹7.70 million, due to a 5 percent GST rate for the electric version compared to 40 percent for the ICE model.
The company has secured over 1,000 bookings for the electric SUV, with sales already sold out until March 2027. Managing Director Santosh Iyer stated that deliveries are scheduled to commence around Diwali on November 8. CEO Ola Kallenius noted that the brand achieved a record of over 550 pre-bookings within the first 36 hours of the announcement.
The electric GLC 400 4MATIC features a dual-motor setup delivering 360 kW and 800 Nm of torque. It is equipped with a 94 kWh battery pack that supports charging speeds up to 330 kW. The vehicle offers a WLTP-certified range of 711 km, accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in 4.3 seconds, and has an electronically limited top speed of 210 km/h.
