Mercedes-Benz does not plan to adopt range-extender technology for its vehicle lineup. Christoph Starzynski, Vice President of Product Strategy and Planning, stated that the company sees no significant demand for such models among its existing customer base.

The automaker argues that its current plug-in hybrid vehicles already meet consumer needs. These models offer an electric-only range exceeding 100 kilometers, which the company considers sufficient for daily commuting requirements.

In Europe, Mercedes-Benz plug-in hybrids provide an electric range of over 124 kilometers and support DC fast charging. Starzynski noted that even increasing the electric range to 322 kilometers would likely not change customer preferences.

The company maintains that customers seeking longer electric range should opt for fully electric vehicles. Those who prefer to retain a gasoline engine can continue to choose from the existing plug-in hybrid offerings.
