MegaFon analysts reported a shift in DDoS attack patterns over the first nine months of 2026. While the total number of incidents dropped by 65% year-on-year, the intensity and complexity of individual attacks have surged significantly.

The maximum traffic volume of attacks increased by 46% compared to 2025. Packet processing speed reached a record 94,043 Kpps, up from 72,210 Kpps in 2025. Median power and packet speed metrics also rose by 30% and 41% respectively.

Attackers are increasingly targeting small and medium-sized enterprises, which often have weaker security infrastructure. According to MegaFon, 42% of surveyed companies identified DDoS attacks as their primary threat, with 58% of victims reporting losses exceeding 1 ₽ million.

Experts attribute the increased sophistication of attacks to the use of artificial intelligence. AI tools now automate vulnerability scanning and adapt malicious code in real-time to bypass security systems, making attacks more resilient.
