MediaTek has unveiled the Dimensity 9600 Pro, a flagship mobile processor manufactured by TSMC using 2nm technology. The chip integrates 33 billion transistors and features a 2+3+3 core configuration, including Arm C2-Ultra and Arm C2-Pro cores. It offers a 21% increase in L2 cache capacity compared to its predecessor.

The processor supports LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage, alongside 5G, modern Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 6.2 connectivity. According to MediaTek, the chip is designed to reduce memory load through AI-driven technologies, addressing rising smartphone costs associated with memory prices.

The integrated neural processing unit improves AI model energy efficiency by 40% and performance by 50%. In single-core tasks, the chip is 17% faster and 37% more energy-efficient, while multi-core performance sees a 15% speed boost with 61% higher efficiency. Token generation for large language models is 40% faster.

MediaTek supplies its processors to partners including Samsung Electronics, Google, Oppo, Vivo, Amazon, and Xiaomi. These manufacturers are expected to unveil smartphones featuring the new chipset this month, with retail availability anticipated in October.
