Barcelona-based Masia has finalized its debut fund, securing €18 million from 72 individual investors. The firm focuses on early-stage startups, typically contributing between €100,000 and €300,000 to funding rounds ranging from €1.5 million to €3 million. This strategy allows Masia to participate in deals without competing directly with larger venture capital funds.
Since its inception in 2025, the firm has supported 46 companies involving 60 founders. Its portfolio includes startups like Biorce, which raised $52 million, and Prosper, which secured $30 million. Masia co-invests alongside international firms such as Common Magic, Nina Capital, and Point Nine, while its portfolio companies have received backing from investors including a16z, DST Global, and Y Combinator.
The firm is led by co-founders Carlos Trenchs and Pepe Borrell, who leveraged their professional networks to assemble the investor base. The team has recently expanded to seven members, with Gemma Torruella overseeing operations. Masia has also launched Masia House, a 1,000 m² facility in the Gràcia neighborhood of Barcelona designed to host founders and investors for collaborative work.
Market data indicates that Barcelona startups raised €1.175 billion in the first nine months of 2026, marking a 14% year-over-year increase. The city currently ranks as the sixth-largest hub for deeptech funding in the European Union. Meanwhile, Madrid reported €1.153 billion in funding for the same period, reflecting a 37% growth and narrowing the gap with Barcelona to €22 million.
