Luxeed, an electric vehicle brand developed by Chery and Huawei, is set to receive an independent carmaking license. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has listed the brand as a proposed manufacturer, with a public comment period ending October 23, 2026.
The license involves transferring existing production capacity from Chery to Luxeed at a facility in Wuhu, Anhui province. Following the approval, vehicles will transition from carrying the Chery badge to the Luxeed brand name.
Luxeed plans to pursue an independent public listing in the future. The company currently operates as an autonomous business unit, having been established as Anhui Luxeed New Energy Vehicle Co Ltd in January 2025 with a registered capital of ¥1 billion.
In August 2025, Chery and Huawei signed a strategy agreement to invest over ¥10 billion in R&D and expand the team to 5,000 employees. The company's ownership structure was adjusted in June 2026, with Chery holding 85 percent, while executives and investment partners hold the remainder.
The brand's current lineup includes the S7 sedan, R7, V9 MPV, and the RX electric SUV. Luxeed reported sales of 90,493 vehicles in 2025, representing a 56 percent year-on-year increase, while sales for the first nine months of 2026 reached 43,623 units.
