LG Display has set a target to begin mass production of its FLiPP technology by 2029. This initiative focuses on the development of OLED panels that do not rely on Fine Metal Mask (FMM) processes, as reported by Sigmaintell.
The company aims to secure orders for Apple's upcoming Studio Display monitors, which are expected to launch between 2029 and 2030. LG Display noted that a single 8.5-generation substrate can produce 24 units of 27-inch FLiPP OLED panels, matching the size used in Apple's current displays.
During a recent technical seminar, LG Display representatives stated that traditional FMM-based IT OLED production faces significant technical and pricing hurdles. Consequently, the firm is prioritizing FLiPP technology to expand its presence in the IT OLED market.
Despite these strategic goals, the company clarified that the FLiPP technology remains in the research and development phase. As of now, no final schedule for mass production has been officially confirmed.
