Lexus is moving forward with the development of its new electric sports car, which serves as a successor to the original LFA. Recent spy photos reveal a camouflaged prototype that shares its chassis with the Toyota GR GT and GT3 race cars. The vehicle features a low-slung profile and an active rear wing, distinguishing it from the internal combustion engine models of the past.
While the automaker has not disclosed full technical specifications, the concept model measures 185.6 inches in length, 80.3 inches in width, and 47.0 inches in height. This makes the new iteration approximately 10.0 inches longer and 6.0 inches wider than the original LFA. The production version will be fully battery-electric, moving away from the V10 engine architecture.
To replicate the experience of a traditional sports car, Lexus is developing software to simulate a gas engine and a sequential gearbox. A recent patent filing details a system that modulates motor torque to mimic the sensation of clutch engagement during gear shifts. This setup, which includes paddle shifters, is similar to technology currently utilized in the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.
Despite challenges related to vehicle weight and market demand for electric sports cars, the project remains on schedule. Lexus plans to begin production of the electric LFA next year, with a potential market arrival targeted for 2027. Specific pricing and final performance metrics for the upcoming model have not yet been released by the manufacturer.
