The new Lattice Jolt version, released on September 9, introduces a post-quantum proof system for blockchain scaling. Developed by a16z crypto and LayerZero, the system utilizes the Akita polynomial commitment scheme based on lattice cryptography, replacing the previous Dory component.

Performance tests on a MacBook showed that Lattice Jolt generates proofs at a rate exceeding 2 million RISC-V cycles per second on a CPU, rising to 10 million cycles when utilizing Apple Metal GPU acceleration. This represents a significant speed increase compared to the previous version's 1 million cycles.

The integration of the Akita scheme allows for a 128-bit security level, aligning with NIST standards like ML-KEM and ML-DSA. Developers report that proof sizes are now under 100 KB, with Akita capable of reducing proof sizes by 2 to 8 times compared to other post-quantum alternatives.

LayerZero plans to use Jolt as the foundation for its own blockchain infrastructure, describing the release as a step toward full quantum protection. While the component is open-source and available for other projects, the repository currently labels the project as being in the alpha stage.
