Kairos Power has selected Samsung C&T to assist in the construction of a 50-megawatt demonstration nuclear reactor for Google. The project is scheduled for completion by 2030.

The agreement includes an equity investment and in-kind engineering services from Samsung C&T, with a total value of up to $100 million. Of this amount, $70 million represents the equity stake.

Google and Kairos Power initially partnered in late 2024. The long-term goal of this collaboration is to generate approximately 0,5 gigawatts of electricity by 2035 to support data centers.

Kairos is currently developing two reactors in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The Hermes 1 unit serves as a low-power demonstrator, while Hermes 2 is the company's first commercial-scale reactor.

The Hermes 2 design utilizes fluoride salt-cooled technology and TRISO nuclear fuel. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission granted approval for the construction of these reactors in November 2024.
