JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon announced that the bank will block unvetted third-party AI agents from accessing its systems. The bank currently restricts these agents to read-only access for balance checks, prohibiting them from initiating transactions or paying bills on behalf of customers.

The bank’s stance on external agents follows a 2025 dispute with Plaid over data access. JPMorgan previously reported that only 13% of data requests to its systems originated from customers performing transactions, with the majority coming from fintech services.

JPMorgan is currently developing its own internal AI tools to enhance customer protection. CFO Jeremy Barnum noted that the bank aims to prioritize primary banking relationships rather than competing directly with fintechs on every service.

Other companies have adopted different approaches to AI integration. Robinhood introduced agentic trading and credit card features with specific spending limits and manual approval requirements, while Amazon blocked Meta’s Muse agent in September due to concerns over credential storage.
