Apple has officially released iOS 27, which is compatible with devices dating back to the iPhone 11 and the second and third generations of the iPhone SE. Testing on an iPhone 14 Plus confirms that the update maintains smooth system animations and basic interface navigation, despite the hardware limitations of older models.

The update introduces several interface changes, including redesigned icons and enhanced landscape mode support for system applications like Calendar, Notes, and Apple Music. The Wallet app now allows users to create custom passes using templates, although it currently only supports manual entry of QR codes from physical documents.

Camera features in iOS 27 are hardware-dependent. While older models like the iPhone 14 Plus receive basic style adjustments, advanced features such as the 'Palette' and 'Texture' menus—which allow for skin tone and lighting adjustments—are exclusive to the iPhone 18 Pro series.

New photo management tools include a 'Shot by Me' category, a 1-5 star rating system for images, and an option to save video frames as photos at original resolution. Additionally, a new firmware update for AirPods enables a three-band equalizer, allowing users to adjust low, mid, and high frequencies directly within system settings.

Despite the broad compatibility, some features remain exclusive to devices with the Dynamic Island. For instance, timer controls on non-Dynamic Island devices like the iPhone 14 Plus are restricted to the notification center, whereas newer models integrate these directly into the UI element.
