A user identified as Makr has successfully ported the iOS 16.7.16 operating system onto a Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 4G smartphone. The project utilizes Apple's open-source XNU kernel alongside the original user interface from the iPhone X, rather than relying on themes or emulators.

According to the report, the ported system recognizes the device as an iPhone X in the settings menu. Basic hardware functionality, including the touchscreen and volume controls, remains operational under the iOS environment.

The Redmi Note 12 4G was launched in March 2023 as part of a four-model global series. The device features a 6.67-inch FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 685 processor, a 5000mAh battery, and a 50-megapixel primary camera.

This development follows a separate project by developer j0sh1x, who demonstrated the ability to run iOS 7 components on the legacy HTC HD2 device. That project, shared on October 7, also involves the use of the XNU kernel and custom code to enable hardware support.
