IonQ plans to deploy its 256-qubit Superion 256 quantum processing unit (QPU) at the NVIDIA Accelerated Quantum Research Center (NVAQC). This marks the first on-premise quantum integration for the center, aiming to advance hybrid quantum-classical computing architectures.
The Superion 256 system will connect directly to NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 infrastructure via NVQLink. Management of computational workloads will be handled by the NVIDIA CUDA-Q open platform, enabling researchers to explore the integration of quantum processors with GPU-accelerated environments.
The partnership focuses on developing hybrid software, prototyping large-scale systems, and creating open-source results for quantum applications. Key research areas include financial risk assessment, portfolio optimization, materials science, and computational chemistry for drug discovery.
IonQ’s roadmap targets a 10,000-qubit system, supported by vertical integration with SkyWater CMOS manufacturing. The Superion platform was introduced on September 8, with initial customer shipments and the NVAQC deployment scheduled for 2027.
