Intel has resumed construction at its Ohio One facility in New Albany, a project valued at over $28 billion. The site, which began construction in 2022, had previously faced two separate work stoppages. Recent activity includes the installation of the first steel truss for the roof structure.
The project timeline has been revised multiple times. Under the current schedule, Intel expects to complete the first factory by 2030, with operations commencing between 2030 and 2031. Construction of the second facility is slated for completion in 2031, followed by a planned launch in 2032.
The resumption of work follows the appointment of Lip-Bu Tan as CEO in 2025, who had initially paused expansion plans. Current market demand for data center and AI processors has prompted the company to restart development. Hiring for the site began earlier this year in January.
Industry speculation suggests a potential partnership with SK hynix to share construction costs and production capacity. Such a deal would allow the South Korean firm to establish a manufacturing base in the United States, potentially mitigating risks associated with geopolitical tensions in the region.
