Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan confirmed that the company remains involved in the Terafab project. This collaboration persists even as Terafab engages in parallel discussions with TSMC regarding potential manufacturing partnerships.
Terafab aims to license Intel’s 14A process node and other proprietary technologies. These assets are intended to support semiconductor production at a new facility in Texas, which is part of Elon Musk’s initiative to expand domestic chip manufacturing.
The involvement of TSMC emerged after Terafab management expressed concerns regarding Intel’s ability to deliver the 14A node. Despite these talks, Intel’s intellectual property remains the foundational technology for the project.
Elon Musk clarified that the Terafab team will handle all construction and operational tasks at the Texas site. TSMC will not operate independent capacity but may provide expertise in fab construction and maintenance in exchange for potential subleased manufacturing capacity.
