YADRO began developing its YADRO BTS8100 Baseband Unit (BBU) in 2022 to create a competitive, carrier-grade base station. The development process focused on meeting strict technical standards, including OBSAI, Telcordia, and ITU-T, while ensuring compliance with Russian domestic component requirements for the ERRRP registry.

The design team analyzed global vendor solutions and gathered operational feedback from service engineers. Key environmental requirements include operating within outdoor climate cabinets at temperatures from -5 to +55 degrees Celsius, withstanding high humidity, and ensuring a reliability level of 99.999 percent, allowing for no more than 5 minutes and 15 seconds of downtime per year.

The BBU is designed for shelf-level installation and is powered by -48V DC. The hardware must function in environments where external temperatures range from -45 to +50 degrees Celsius, utilizing free-cooling systems. The design also incorporates physical protections against environmental factors, including insects, and adheres to Telcordia SR-3580 level 3 standards for physical impact resistance.

The project required balancing hardware architecture with specialized software development and production constraints at YADRO's own facilities. The team prioritized target cost-efficiency as a critical factor for the product's market competitiveness, while maintaining the ability to monitor and manage climate cabinet failures directly through the BBU.
