Inertia, a startup focused on fusion energy, secured $450 million in a Series A funding round in February. The investment was led by Bessemer Venture Partners with participation from GV and other backers. The capital is designated for developing laser systems and manufacturing fusion fuel targets.

The company, co-founded by former Twilio executive Jeff Lawson, opened a 50,000-square-foot headquarters in Livermore, California, in July. This facility houses operations for fuel-target production and laser technology development.

Inertia has expanded its team by hiring leadership personnel from companies such as Apple, Corning, and Waymo. These recruits are tasked with establishing the startup's manufacturing and supply-chain infrastructure.

Jeff Lawson will discuss the company's transition from software to energy hardware at the TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 conference. The event is scheduled for October 13–15 at Moscone West in San Francisco.
