Industrial Defender has updated its cybersecurity platform for critical infrastructure by integrating internal network security monitoring (INSM) and a new feature called Risk Signal. This release aims to assist NERC-CIP regulated utilities in meeting the FERC-approved CIP-015-1 standard, which mandates the monitoring and evaluation of internal network traffic for high and medium impact BES Cyber Systems.
The INSM module establishes a baseline for device communications to detect anomalies such as unauthorized devices, new connections, and unexpected protocols. The system correlates these network findings with existing asset data, including configuration changes and vulnerability assessments. Every review decision is documented with timestamps and rationales to provide audit-ready evidence for compliance requirements.
The Risk Signal feature is designed to convert security findings into actionable remediation plans. It utilizes a customer's existing risk model to identify patches and upgrades that offer the most significant risk reduction. These are then organized into prioritized playbooks that integrate with work-management systems. Once patches are applied, the system verifies the updates and adjusts the asset risk score.
Beyond the energy sector, the platform supports industrial control system environments in industries such as oil and gas, petrochemical processing, and manufacturing. The company plans to demonstrate these new capabilities at the GridSecCon 2026 event in Orlando.
