IBM has launched the Quantum Safe software suite to help organizations transition to post-quantum cryptography. The tools identify vulnerable algorithms, assess security risks, and manage the migration to new data protection standards.
The company developed these tools in response to tightening regulatory requirements. Federal agencies in the United States are expected to complete their transition to post-quantum standards by 2035, with specific deadlines for critical systems set for 2030 and 2031.
During internal testing, IBM used the Quantum Safe Explorer to scan 47.6 million lines of code across 5,815 repositories. The audit identified 3,943 vulnerabilities across 440,000 files written in Java, Python, and Go.
The initiative aligns with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) publication IR 8547, which outlines the technical procedures for replacing current encryption methods. NIST approved the first three post-quantum standards in August 2024.
