Legal proceedings have commenced in a New York court to address allegations against Huawei Technologies regarding the theft of trade secrets and the violation of US sanctions against Iran. Company representatives formally denied all charges during the initial hearings.
The prosecution claims that Huawei engaged in a two-decade pattern of intellectual property theft from six companies, including Cisco, Fujitsu, T-Mobile, and CNEX Labs. Prosecutors allege the company stole source code for routers and antennas and misused the US financial system to gain market dominance.
The defense, led by attorney Brian Heberlig, argued that the US government is mischaracterizing standard business practices as criminal activity. Huawei maintains that any past intellectual property disputes were isolated incidents rather than a systemic strategy.
The trial, which involves 18 jurors and testimony from former employees and industry experts, is expected to last several months. If found guilty, Huawei may face financial penalties, though analysts suggest these are unlikely to significantly impact the company's stability.
