Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson predicts that blockchain technology will integrate artificial intelligence within the next five to ten years. He argues that the current model of massive data center expansion is unsustainable due to electricity grid limitations and the high costs of pretraining models, which challenge the profitability of companies like OpenAI and Anthropic.
Hoskinson suggests that blockchain could address critical AI challenges, including payment systems, model alignment, and data provenance. He proposes a shift toward distributed training networks that utilize everyday devices and GPUs, drawing a parallel to the fiber optic boom of the 1990s where infrastructure was significantly overbuilt.
Regarding legislative developments, Hoskinson expects the CLARITY Act to remain stalled in the U.S. Congress until at least 2029. He attributes this delay to political missteps by the Trump administration. This forecast follows the Senate's failure to advance the CLARITY Act on September 15, as the bill did not secure the necessary 60 votes.
