The funding round was supported by ROM InWest, Brightlands Venture Partners, and a private investor. Greencovery, founded in 2018, specializes in separation technology that converts food industry byproducts into functional ingredients. The company has previously validated its processes using coffee, oil press cakes, and nuts.

The startup is currently scaling its operations to reach a production capacity of 1,000 tons. This expansion focuses on the North Holland region, which generates over 350,000 tons of food-grade side streams annually. The company aims to build a circular cocoa value chain in Zaandam, a long-standing hub for the global cocoa trade.

The current €1 million investment follows a €500,000 round secured in 2022. Greencovery is now finalizing an additional €3 million funding round to support full-scale commercial manufacturing. These funds will facilitate the production of cocoa fiber, cocoa extract, and cocoa soluble fiber for food manufacturers.

These ingredients serve as alternatives to traditional cocoa products, helping manufacturers manage price volatility while meeting consumer demand for natural labels and reduced sugar content. By processing side streams locally, the company avoids the disposal or low-value export of materials, supporting a circular food system.
