Google has opened pre-orders for its new Googlebook laptop line, with prices starting at $899. The devices feature processors from Intel and Qualcomm, specifically the Panther Lake and Snapdragon X Elite chips. Manufacturing partners for the initial launch include Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.

The laptops run on Aluminium OS, an Android-based system optimized for desktop use. Unlike previous ChromeOS implementations, this platform runs Android applications natively without virtualization. The system includes the pKVM hypervisor for secure Linux development and integrates Gemini AI features, such as the Magic Pointer tool and custom widget generation.

Hardware specifications for the base models include 16 GB of RAM, expandable to 32 GB, and an NPU delivering 45 TOPS. The devices offer up to 14 hours of video playback or 16 hours of web browsing. Security is managed via the Google Titan chip, and the company guarantees 10 years of system and security updates.

Sales begin in the United States on October 4, followed by Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia on October 5. Each purchase includes a one-year subscription to Google AI Pro with 5 TB of storage, a one-year subscription to Nvidia GeForce Now, and three-month trials for YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop.
