Google has quietly removed the Pixel Tablet from the main navigation and product display pages of its official online store. While the device remains available through direct links or select third-party retailers, its removal from the primary product family list suggests the product line is nearing its end.
Launched in 2023, the Pixel Tablet featured a magnetic speaker dock designed to function as both a tablet and a smart home display. However, the device faced criticism for its screen refresh rate, lack of professional accessories, and limited Android app optimization for large screens, struggling to compete with established market leaders.
Internal reports indicate that Google has canceled the development of the second-generation Pixel Tablet, codenamed Kiyomi, which was expected to feature the Tensor G4 chip. Furthermore, plans for a high-end Pixel Tablet 3, originally slated for 2027, have also been halted as management reevaluates hardware resource allocation.
This shift follows Google's previous exits from the tablet market, including the discontinuation of the Pixel C in 2017 and the Pixel Slate in 2019. Analysts suggest that Google is prioritizing its engineering resources and Tensor chip production for smartphones, foldable devices, and AI-focused data center hardware.
The company has not yet provided an official statement regarding the removal of the device from its store or the future of its tablet hardware division. The decision reflects a broader strategy of cost control and focus on core computing segments amid intense competition in the hardware sector.
