Google has launched a pilot program in India allowing select users to purchase products from Flipkart directly within the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search. The limited testing phase began in October 2026, with plans for a wider release later that month.

The new functionality is part of Google's agentic commerce initiative. It enables the AI to search for products, compare prices, and complete transactions entirely inside the chat interface. The system relies on the Universal Commerce Protocol, an open standard introduced by Google in January 2026 to facilitate communication between AI and retail platforms.

Flipkart joins other major retailers like Walmart, Target, Wayfair, and Shopify in adopting the protocol. While Google Pay is the primary payment method for these transactions, the company is also testing UPI-based payments in India through partnerships with providers such as Razorpay, with additional support for PayPal planned for the future.

This update builds upon shopping tools released in India in April 2026, which initially provided product listings and price comparisons but required users to visit external websites to finalize orders. The current beta integration aims to keep the entire shopping process within the Gemini ecosystem, supporting both English and Hindi languages.
