Google has launched early access to its Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for the Google Home ecosystem. This integration enables AI agents that support the protocol, such as Claude, Hermes, OpenClaw, ChatGPT, and Google Antigravity, to manage connected smart home devices and review event history.

Users can now issue natural language commands to monitor home activity, control devices, check camera summaries, and create custom dashboards. The system is compatible with all devices in the Google Home ecosystem, including Nest thermostats, doorbells, and hardware certified under the Works with Google Home or Matter standards.

To enable the feature, users must establish a Google Cloud project and configure it for Home MCP. After providing the configuration details to their chosen AI agent, users grant the necessary permissions through a sign-in process. A setup guide is available via the Google Home Developer Center.

While Google already utilizes MCP across its data platforms, developer tools, and Workspace, this specific rollout targets consumers testing AI agents for daily tasks. The company is currently gathering feedback from early adopters through the Smart Home for Developers Community.
