Google has launched early access to the Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for its Google Home ecosystem. This integration allows AI agents, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Hermes, OpenClaw, and Google Antigravity, to interact with smart home devices and access event history.
Users can issue natural language commands to manage connected devices, view camera feeds, track household activity, and create custom control dashboards. The system supports Google Nest products and devices certified under the Works with Google Home or Matter standards.
To enable the feature, users must create a project in Google Cloud, configure it for Home MCP, and provide the necessary credentials to their chosen AI agent. Detailed setup instructions are provided via the Google Home Developer Center.
The rollout is occurring in stages over the coming weeks, initially limited to Google Home Premium Advanced subscribers in the United States. This subscription tier costs $20 per month and includes advanced video storage and search features.
Google is currently gathering feedback from early users through the Smart Home for Developers Community. The company has not yet provided details regarding potential expansion to other regions or additional subscription plans.
