Bloomberg Economics reports that 380 million jobs globally are at risk due to AI disruption. Advanced economies show a 27% employment exposure to AI, while emerging markets face approximately 10%. This disparity stems from the concentration of knowledge-based roles in wealthy nations.
Other financial institutions have provided their own forecasts. Goldman Sachs estimates that AI could affect 300 million jobs globally over the next decade. Meanwhile, Bridgewater analysts suggest that up to 18% of US jobs could face displacement within five years.
Labor market data indicates early impacts. In the US, occupations with high AI exposure saw a 0.2% employment decline between May 2024 and May 2025, while the broader market grew by 0.8%. Additionally, graduates in AI-exposed fields have experienced lower initial earnings since November 2022.
The UK labor market presents a different trend. Vacancies in AI-exposed roles began falling before the launch of ChatGPT, and these roles showed signs of recovery after 2024. This suggests that the immediate impact of AI on British employment remains limited.
