Germany has approved over 100,000 applications for its electric vehicle subsidy program as of early October 2026. The initiative, which launched in May but applies retroactively from January 1, 2026, has disbursed a total of €432 million to date.
The approval process accelerated significantly, with the number of processed applications rising from 52,473 on September 1 to 97,790 by October 1. Purely electric vehicles account for 91.6 percent of all approved funding, while plug-in hybrids make up the remaining 8.4 percent.
Data from the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA) indicates that 52.3 percent of recipients belong to the lowest income bracket of up to €45,000 annually. The average subsidy amount per household currently stands at €4,418.
Tesla remains the leading brand among applicants, followed by Skoda and Cupra. Chinese manufacturers Leapmotor and BYD have gained market share, moving into fourth and fifth place respectively. Purchase and leasing options remain nearly evenly split among participants.
