Ford unveiled the R125, a restomod based on a 1966 Mustang Fastback, at the SEMA 2026 show. The project commemorates the 125th anniversary of the Ford Motor Company and the 1901 racing victory of Henry Ford. The vehicle is designed for regular use rather than as a static display piece.
The build focuses on accessibility, utilizing components available through the Ford Racing Parts catalog. This approach allows builders to replicate the project using standard parts without needing rare or discontinued items. The goal was to create a performance-oriented vehicle that avoids the high costs associated with extreme custom builds.
Under the hood, the R125 features a 347-cubic-inch stroker V8 engine based on an 8.2-inch-deck-height Boss 302-style block. The engine delivers 360 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, supported by an Edelbrock Pro-Flo electronic fuel injection system for improved reliability and cold starts.
Power is managed by a TREMEC TKX-600 five-speed manual transmission. The compact design of the gearbox allows for installation with minimal modifications to the floorpan, reducing labor requirements. The exterior silhouette of the 1966 Fastback remains unchanged, keeping the classic aesthetic intact.
