First Bus has reached a milestone of 100 electric buses in its Norfolk fleet following the delivery of 14 new double-decker vehicles in Norwich. These additions bring the share of electric buses to over 60 percent of the operator's total fleet in the county.
The new buses will serve routes 28, 37, 38, and 38A, linking Norwich city center with surrounding areas like Thorpe Marriot and Mulbarton. The fleet will be based at the upgraded Vulcan Road depot, which now features new charging infrastructure.
The project is part of a £13.8 million investment involving First Bus and the Norfolk County Council. First Bus contributed £8.9 million, while the remainder came from the council’s Bus Service Improvement Plan.
The broader initiative has also introduced 10 electric buses to Great Yarmouth, supported by new charging facilities at the Caister Road depot. First Bus aims to transition to a fully zero-emission fleet across the UK by 2035.
