The six-year vesting schedule for Protocol Labs and the Filecoin Foundation concludes on October 15, 2026. This event will remove approximately 66.7 to 68 million FIL from the annual supply schedule, as these entities will no longer receive their allocated tokens.

Following this change, the total annual issuance of FIL is expected to decrease from the current range of 88 to 89 million tokens to approximately 21 to 22 million. This represents a reduction of roughly 75% in the gross annual supply, leaving block rewards as the sole source of new tokens.

Post-October 2026, new FIL supply will rely on a dual minting model consisting of a simple component and a baseline component. The network will continue to remove tokens from circulation through fee burns and collateral requirements for storage providers.

Simulations indicate that net FIL growth could decline by 86% to 119% by the end of 2027 compared to August 2026 levels. If the decline exceeds 100%, the net supply of the token may contract as outflows from burns and collateral exceed new block rewards.

Filecoin is promoting products like Filecoin Onchain Cloud and Fil One to stimulate demand. Annualized payments for Filecoin Onchain Cloud grew from $663 in January 2026 to $59,327 by August 2026, while FIL prices increased by 10% to 24% ahead of the supply reduction.
