Fiat CEO Arnaud Belloni has expressed his intention to revive the Punto model to compete in the European B-segment. The original Punto was produced from 1993 until its discontinuation in 2018. Belloni noted that the absence of the Punto, alongside the exit of the Ford Fiesta and the lack of a new Volkswagen Polo, allowed the Renault Clio to dominate the market.
Unlike the retro-styled Fiat 500 and Grande Panda, the new Punto is expected to feature a modern design. The project aims to offer both internal combustion engine and hybrid powertrains, moving away from an EV-only strategy. The vehicle will likely be positioned upmarket from the Grande Panda, potentially utilizing the Stellantis CMP/eCMP platform.
The development of the new model is expected to be cost-effective due to shared components within the Stellantis group. While no official release date has been set, the company aims to launch the hatchback before the end of the decade to target the European market.
