Fiat is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with a new budget-friendly model, internally referred to as the Koala. The automaker aims to position this urban EV below the Grande Panda crossover and the Grizzly SUV. The vehicle is expected to retail for less than €15 000, targeting cost-conscious consumers while adhering to upcoming European E-Car segment regulations.
CEO Arnauld Belloni confirmed that the company has secured the Koala trademark. The project is being developed on a dedicated E-car platform, with design head François Leboine noting that the vehicle is currently in an advanced state of readiness. The model will not replicate the neo-retro aesthetic of the Citroen 2CV, opting instead for a distinct design language.
The development team has drawn inspiration from a previous student design competition, which featured concepts like the Ippo, Lumo Su Misura, and Fizz. These entries provided styling cues that may influence the final production version. While the company has not yet provided a specific launch date, industry expectations point to a market arrival by 2028.
