The IRU and Transport & Environment (T&E) have addressed a joint letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. They are calling for a strategic dialogue on the decarbonization of heavy-duty vehicles to address practical and economic barriers to the transition to zero-emission trucks.
The request comes as the EU prepares to review two critical laws: the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), which governs the charging and hydrogen infrastructure rollout, and the Heavy-Duty Vehicle CO2 Standards, which establish CO2 reduction targets for new vehicles.
The organizations emphasize that the success of the transition will depend on several key factors, including competitive energy prices, sufficient grid and charging capacity, and the same for financing and demand for zero-emission transport.
