At the TOKEN2049 conference in Singapore, Ethena Labs CEO Guy Young argued that yield products should be evaluated based on risk management rather than headline rates. He emphasized that trust in operators is not uniform, making yield a non-commoditized asset.
Ethena utilizes a delta-neutral strategy for its USDe synthetic dollar and sUSDe yield-bearing token. The protocol maintains staked assets while opening short positions in perpetual futures. Historically, 48–50% of the company's exchange counterparty exposure has been concentrated on Binance.
The company has taken steps to address operational risks, including completing a SOC 2 Type II audit and establishing a $1 billion credit facility with FalconX in 2026. Ethena also maintains an insurance fund to mitigate potential losses from negative funding rates.
Ethena has expanded its product line to include tokenized US equities via Binance bStocks and equity perpetuals as of September 2026. The protocol has also integrated with the TRON blockchain. These moves follow a period of contraction after USDe supply peaked near $15 billion in 2025.
Regulatory challenges occurred in 2025 when Germany’s BaFin issued a wind-down order for Ethena’s local entity. Additionally, token incentives linked to USDe growth concluded in late September 2026. Future focus areas include supply recovery and diversification of exchange exposure.
