Epic Games has released a preview version of its new launcher, developed using AI-assisted programming. The company stated that it turned to AI because traditional coding methods were too complex. The updated interface is designed to be more responsive and faster than the previous iteration.
Performance data indicates that the new launcher achieves a cold start in an average of 5.47 seconds, which is 46% faster than Steam. The update also reduces background system resource usage and improves navigation between the game library and the store. The preview version currently includes core features like a shopping cart.
The project follows a series of internal improvements initiated in late 2023, which involved a complete overhaul of the launcher's architecture. In June, at Unreal Fest, Epic Games announced plans to address long-standing performance issues. Earlier in February, company leadership acknowledged that the previous version suffered from significant latency and slow page loading.
