Epic Games is shifting its internal game development processes to an AI-first workflow. The company plans to minimize manual coding and rely on generative tools for asset creation, with human oversight remaining part of the production cycle.
The transition begins with an unannounced shooter game featuring characters from the Marvel and Star Wars franchises. This project was originally scheduled for release in March 2027 but has faced delays.
Development of the Disney-themed title will primarily utilize the Claude AI suite from Anthropic. Jake Jones, communications director at Epic, stated that the company is adopting AI-accelerated development while keeping human staff as the primary creative drivers.
Epic Games has previously integrated generative AI features into Unreal Engine and announced intentions to use AI for character creation in Fortnite. These initiatives have previously sparked industry debate, including a collaboration withdrawal by the developer of Vampire Survivors.
