The Vietnamese motorcycle market is undergoing a significant shift as electric two-wheelers gain popularity. Nationwide sales of motorcycles and scooters reached over 3 million units in the first nine months of 2026, marking a 25.9% increase compared to the previous year.
Electric models are driving this growth, with sales surging 90.5% to 973,247 units. These vehicles now represent approximately 32% of the total market. Government initiatives, such as plans to limit gasoline-powered motorcycles in Hanoi to combat air pollution, are accelerating this transition.
VinFast has emerged as a major player, securing the second position in the market with a 152.1% increase in sales. While Honda maintains its lead as the largest manufacturer with 8.4% growth, its overall market share is declining as consumers increasingly opt for electric alternatives.
The current market hierarchy in Vietnam places Honda in first, followed by VinFast, Yamaha, and Yadea. Half of the top four manufacturers now specialize in electric vehicles, highlighting the rapid change in consumer demand and the competitive pressure on traditional gasoline motorcycle producers.
