De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) has released its first comprehensive report on crypto-asset holdings in the Netherlands, based on data from June 2026. The study focuses on assets managed by regulated domestic crypto-asset service providers (CASPs), including companies like Bitvavo, Coinmerce, and Blox.
Dutch households hold €3,2 billion in cryptocurrencies, while businesses and other sectors account for an additional €200 million. The total volume of assets held through local regulated platforms reached €3,4 billion. Bitcoin represents €1,5 billion of the household total, with Ethereum adding €0,3 billion.
Stablecoins account for less than 1% of household holdings, indicating they are not currently used as primary savings or payment tools. Most assets held by households are classified as unbacked crypto, lacking underlying collateral or issuer promises.
The report compares crypto holdings to traditional securities, such as stocks, bonds, and investment funds, which total €234,2 billion. Consequently, crypto assets represent approximately 1,4% of the value held in conventional securities by Dutch households.
The DNB notes that these figures represent a minimum threshold. The statistics exclude assets held on foreign platforms, holdings in self-custody wallets, and indirect market exposure, providing a snapshot only of investments made through licensed domestic entities.
