According to Digitimes, major memory manufacturers have issued warnings regarding a significant DRAM shortage projected for 2027. Production capacity for 2027 and 2028 is reportedly already fully booked, leaving little supply for the open market.
Team Group General Manager Chen Qingwen stated that the most severe supply constraints are expected in the first half of 2027. The company plans to prioritize specific clients, which may impact future revenue streams. DRAM demand currently remains more stable than NAND flash, with Team Group focusing on inventory safety.
Major producers including Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix have allocated their 2027 DRAM and HBM output to long-term partners and smaller buyers. Consequently, PC and smartphone manufacturers face reduced quotas compared to 2026. Goldman Sachs estimates global supply gaps of 5.0%, 5.9%, and 3.9% for 2026 through 2028.
Supply chain reports indicate that many customers are receiving only 60% to 70% of their requested orders, with no new production lines currently planned by the top three manufacturers. SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won warned of an unprecedented structural shortage driven by surging AI-related capital expenditures.
