The U.S. Department of Justice has established the Super Intelligence Task Force (DOJ-SITF) to address the misuse of advanced artificial intelligence. The new unit will be led by Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward and Associate Deputy Attorney General Stephen Weiss.
The task force aims to prevent foreign governments, criminal organizations, and individuals from exploiting AI for fraud or threats to national security. It will also work with SI Force Chair Jay Clayton to protect critical technologies from manipulation.
Beyond criminal prosecution, the DOJ intends to enforce stricter internal controls for AI developers. The department expects companies to improve reporting on AI risks and ensure that their models function as intended to prevent unintended outcomes.
The creation of this task force follows recent regulatory actions, including an executive order from President Donald Trump regarding AI oversight and a new AI framework issued by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).
