Descope Inc. has launched Envoy, a service designed to enable consumer websites and applications to authenticate personal AI agents as distinct users. This solution allows businesses to manage agent access without requiring a complete overhaul of their existing login infrastructure.
The platform is based on the Personal Agent Protocol, a draft standard published in October by Meta and Sierra Technologies. Envoy automates agent discovery and identification, ensuring that session tokens are cryptographically bound to the specific agent rather than the human customer.
Businesses can define granular permissions for agents using the OAuth Rich Authorization Requests extension. This allows retailers to restrict agents from accessing sensitive payment methods while still permitting them to place orders or perform other specific tasks on behalf of the user.
GoFundMe and GoodRx are among the initial partners collaborating with Descope on the implementation of Envoy. The platform also includes a TypeScript-based software development kit to assist developers in building agents that are compatible with the protocol.
Descope is a venture-backed company that has secured $88 million in total funding to date. Its investor base includes firms such as Lightspeed Venture Partners, Notable Capital, and Dell Technologies Capital.
