A new report from Deloitte estimates the cumulative value of the lunar economy through 2050 at between $343 billion and $566 billion. The valuation depends on the pace of infrastructure development and commercial adoption.

The foundation of this economy rests on six core infrastructure markets: transportation, energy, communications, surface mobility, construction, and life support. These sectors could generate $282 billion in value, with transportation accounting for approximately 73% of this total.

Beyond core infrastructure, the report identifies downstream markets such as lunar data, national security, resource extraction, and space-based manufacturing. These areas could contribute an additional $284 billion in value by 2050.

The analysis also highlights broader societal impacts, including innovation and scientific discovery, which are estimated to provide an additional $541 billion in value. Over 400 missions are currently planned for the next two decades.

Deloitte notes that the lunar economy is not inevitable, citing engineering challenges, regulatory uncertainty, and unproven commercial demand. Near-term growth remains heavily dependent on government funding and public-private procurement models.
