Dell Technologies is promoting server consolidation as a strategy to manage the increasing compute demands of agentic AI. The company argues that replacing aging hardware with denser systems allows data centers to free up space and power for new AI workloads.

The upcoming 18th generation of Dell PowerEdge servers, featuring AMD processors, aims to deliver a 70% performance increase compared to previous generations. Dell claims that one new server can replace 13 units from its 14th generation fleet.

To improve rack-level efficiency, Dell utilizes a three-rack-unit, two-socket design that reduces power consumption for cooling. This approach allows customers to increase compute density within their existing data center footprints.

Dell manages its server fleets through tools like iDRAC and OpenManage Enterprise. The company emphasizes support for multiple chip suppliers to prevent vendor lock-in and provide customers with consistent operational models.
